A List of Dangerous Cholesterol High Foods

If you want to bring your cholesterol levels back to the numbers they should be for a person your age, it is important that you eat properly. The single biggest factor in determining your current risk of heart disease due to high cholesterol levels is of course your current food consumption. Many people think that they are immune because they lack family history of cholesterol-related disease, but the truth of the matter is that a person with heavy history and a perfect lifestyle is a lot less likely to come down with disease than a person with no history that is massively overweight and barely exercises at all.

As human beings, a lot of us are stuck in an era of evolution where food was scarce and therefore we had to eat everything we came across. Now that food is in surplus, a lot of us are still learning how to eat in a disciplined fashion and while it may seem difficult, the first step is a simple one. Just cut some high cholesterol foods out of your diet and reduce others over time and you should see and feel the results within a few months of doing so. In order to do that however, you need to know which foods are high cholesterol foods and which ones are not.

Fried food is a big example of something that contains a number of cholesterol high foods and it is also an illustration that cooking practises play a large part in making a food high in cholesterol. Since you can fry almost anything, you can create a high cholesterol version of just about anything and for that reason one of the best ways to get started on the path to eating healthy is to cut out frying as much as you possibly can. Baking foods is a good alternative, as is grilling them. Other cooking techniques that can be considered good cooking techniques are steaming, boiling and poaching, all of which can be applied to most foods.

Moving away from a rather obvious group of cholesterol high foods lands us in a group of foods that may not seem to be that bad off the top. In fact, many people consider foods like muffins that are available in coffee shops to be foods that can be substituted in for things like donuts. However, the sad truth of the matter is that muffins can be just as bad as donuts if consumed in large numbers and for that reason do not make the list of healthy choices. Homemade muffins can be consumed in small quantities, but any muffins that are made by for-profit businesses should not be consumed at all if possible.

For the most part, it is pretty obvious which foods are bad foods and which ones are good according to the measure of good cholesterol (HDL) versus bad cholesterol (LDL). Aside from a couple of non-intuitive foods such as the muffin example given above, using your common sense when picking which foods you eat will allow you to eat healthier and ultimately help any cholesterol problems you might be having.
